For those with celiac disease or a gluten intolerance, we know how hard it can be to find safe medications and products you can trust. Cabinet is the first healthcare company to conduct batch-level quality testing through a 3rd party lab for carcinogens, gluten, and purity. This ensures that every batch of medicine that goes to market is high quality and free of harmful ingredients.

Cabinet Daytime Severe Cold + Flu is certified gluten-free and 100% free from known carcinogens. You can view our 3rd party certificate of analysis at this link.

For the curious consumer: Batch-level testing is not common practice among manufacturers. A great example of the lack of testing in this space is the massive Zanac (randitidine) recall in 2019 and 2020. Manufacturers recalled ranitidine (both brand and generic) after a cancer-causing chemical called N-Nitrosodimethylamine (NDMA) was discovered in every medicine lot.

Cabinet Daytime Cold & Flu Severe, a FDA-approved generic alternative to Tylenol® Cold & Flu Severe and Dayquil® Severe, is a popular over-the-counter (OTC) combination pill used for the temporary relief of common cold and flu symptoms. Each tablet contains four medicines, each working to relieve specific symptoms. How each individual ingredient works is explained below:

Acetaminophen: The active ingredient, acetaminophen, belongs to a group of medications called analgesics (pain relievers) and antipyretics (fever reducers). The exact way acetaminophen works in the body is not well known. It may work by decreasing the production of chemicals that cause inflammation, known as prostaglandins. It is also thought that acetaminophen can increase the pain threshold, making it so that more pain would have to develop for before you can feel it. Lastly, acetaminophen can act on the heat-regulating center of the brain (hypothalamus). When your temperature is high, it can tell this center of the brain to cool the body to bring your fever down. It is important to note acetaminophen does not decrease inflammation or swelling, rather it most likely changes the way your body perceives pain. This ingredient is available separately as Cabinet Pain Reliever & Fever Reducer.

Dextromethorphan: The active ingredient, dextromethorphan hydrobromide, belongs to a group of medications called antitussives (or cough suppressants). Dextromethorphan is able to cross into the cough center of the brain to suppress the cough reflex. This ingredient is available separately as Cabinet Cough Relief.

Guaifenesin: The active ingredient, guaifenesin, belongs to a group of medications called expectorants. Expectorants work by loosening and thinning phlegm (mucus) present in the lungs and airways. By decreasing the thickness and stickiness of the mucus, guaifenesin makes it easier to cough or spit out mucus from the throat and lungs. This ingredient is available separately as Cabinet Mucus Relief.

Phenylephrine: The active ingredient, phenylephrine, belongs to a group of medications called nasal decongestants. When blood vessels inside your nose expand, they start to swell and cause congestion. Nasal decongestants work by shrinking these blood vessels that are in the nasal passages to relieve symptoms. [It is important to note that phenylephrine differs from pseudoephedrine, which is the active ingredient in Sudafed.] This ingredient is available separately as Cabinet Nasal Decongestant.

Cabinet Daytime Severe Cold & Flu can be used for the temporary relief of cold and flu symptoms, such as minor body aches and pains, fever, headache, runny nose, sore throat, nasal congestion, sinus pressure, and cough. This product can also help loosen phlegm (mucus) and thin airway secretions to make it easier to cough or spit out phlegm.

Adults and children over the age of 12 can take two (2) caplets every four hours as needed for symptoms. The tablet should be taken with a full glass of water and can be taken with or without food. Do not take more than 10 caplets of Cabinet Daytime Severe Cold & Flu in 24 hours. This product is not approved for pediatric use and is not recommended for children under the age of 12, unless directed by a doctor. This product should be stored away from young children. In the case of an overdose, contact a Poison Control Center (1-800-222-1222) or seek medical attention immediately.

Liver Warning: This Cabinet Daytime Severe Cold & Flu contains acetaminophen. The maximum dose of this product is 10 caplets (or 3,250 mg of acetaminophen) in 24 hours. Severe liver damage may occur if you take more than 4,000 mg of acetaminophen in 24 hours. It is very important to watch out for other sources of acetaminophen and to make sure additive sources of acetaminophen do not go over 4,000 mg a day. Avoid consuming three or more alcoholic beverages every day while using this product.

Love that Cabinet does third party testing of their medicines. Makes me feel a lot more comfortable knowing they check for impurities!
