Frequently Asked Questions

We know how important it is to know what you're putting inside your body. Please visit this link for a PDF of full drug facts for Cabinet Tension Headache Relief.

Please speak with your doctor prior to using Cabinet Tension Headache Relief if you have liver disease, uncontrolled high blood pressure, or if you are taking a prescription drug called warfarin to thin your blood.

Cabinet Tension Headache Relief can be used to temporarily relieve minor aches and pains caused by headache, stiff neck, or other muscular aches. This product is a good option for quick relief of head, neck, and shoulder pain that comes with stress and tension. Keep in mind that acetaminophen does not help with pain from inflammation or swelling. Non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs), such as ibuprofen or naproxen, are generally better options for inflammatory pain or swelling.

Tip: Cabinet Tension Headache Relief works well for tension-type headaches and general head pain. If you have a sinus headache that persists with a lot of congestion, Cabinet Daytime Severe Cold & Flu may be a better option.

Cabinet Tension Headache Relief does not usually have many side effects. If you experience any unusual effects after taking this medicine, contact your doctor or local pharmacist immediately.

Although rare, call 9-1-1 or seek medical help immediately if you develop a serious allergic reaction to acetaminophen. Symptoms of a very serious reaction include: rash, skin reddening, blisters, itching or swelling (usually in the face, tongue, and throat), severe dizziness, and difficulty breathing.

In the case of an overdose, contact a Poison Control Center (1-800-222-1222) or seek medical attention immediately. Signs of overdose may include: nausea and vomiting, loss of appetite, sweating, stomach pain, yellowing of the eyes/skin, dark urine, clay-colored stools, nervousness or jitteriness, irritability, and sleep problems.

Cabinet Tension Headache Relief, a generic alternative to Excedrin® Tension Headache, is popular over-the-counter (OTC) combination pill used for headache relief. Each tablet contains two medicines, each working to relieve specific symptoms. How each individual ingredient works is explained below:

Acetaminophen: The active ingredient, acetaminophen, belongs to a group of medications called analgesics (pain relievers) and antipyretics (fever reducers). The exact way acetaminophen works in the body is not well known. It may work by decreasing the production of chemicals that cause inflammation, known as prostaglandins. It is also thought that acetaminophen can increase the pain threshold, making it so that more pain would have to develop for before you can feel it. Lastly, acetaminophen can act on the heat-regulating center of the brain (hypothalamus). When your temperature is high, it can tell this center of the brain to cool the body to bring your fever down. This ingredient is available separately as Cabinet Pain Reliever & Fever Reducer.

Caffeine: Caffeine works to relieve pain in an interesting way. The same way caffeine can be effective for pain relief is the same way caffeine can cause pain. When blood vessels expand or swell in the head, there is increased blood flow and pressure around the brain. This triggers nerves to send pain messages to the brain, which in turn produces feelings of a headache. Caffeine can step in to decrease swelling of blood vessels and stop blood from flowing to the brain. When caffeine is combined with a pain medication, such as acetaminophen, it can enhance the overall effect of the medication and help provide quicker pain relief.

Fun Fact! You may notice that when you drink a lot of coffee everyday, you get headaches when you stop drinking it. This is because the body can become dependent on caffeine. Regular caffeine consumption can cause regular narrowing of blood vessels around the brain, but what happens when you suddenly stop consuming caffeine? This lack of caffeine can cause an increase in blood flow and pressure around the brain that you are not used to. This is called a withdrawal headache. It can take a couple weeks for your body to adjust to not having caffeine regularly, so this is why it may be tough for someone to cut down on drinking coffee.

For those with celiac disease or a gluten intolerance, we know how hard it can be to find safe medications and products you can trust. Cabinet is the first healthcare company to conduct batch-level quality testing through a 3rd party lab for carcinogens, gluten, and purity. This ensures that every batch of medicine that goes to market is high quality and free of harmful ingredients.

Cabinet Tension Headache Relief is certified gluten-free and 100% free from known carcinogens. You can view our 3rd party certificate of analysis at this link.

For the curious consumer: Batch-level testing is not common practice among manufacturers. A great example of the lack of testing in this space is the massive Zanac (randitidine) recall in 2019 and 2020. Manufacturers recalled ranitidine (both brand and generic) after a cancer-causing chemical called N-Nitrosodimethylamine (NDMA) was discovered in every medicine lot.

    Best Medicine

Love that it comes in a glass resuable jar and that I am able to easily get refills. I feel these work just as well if not better than the generic brands you can get.

    Great product

Happy to have a more sustainable option for every day type meds. Hopefully they add more options and bring back some of the other meds they used to offer.

    problem with lid

I really like the idea of reusable bottles for OTC drugs that I use regularly. The only problem I had with the delivery from Cabinet Health was that one of the lids (to the nasal decongestant) is IMPOSSIBLE to take of and put back on - some kind of defect in the jar. That may impact further orders from me!

    Works great

My husband usually gets an afternoon headache from work and this headache medicine does the trick. I love that it's in a glass bottle and I can get refills without more plastic bottles to recycle.
