Frequently Asked Questions

Frequently Asked Questions

Clopidogrel can interact with some medicines. It’s always recommended to provide both your doctor and pharmacy with an updated list of everything you’re taking to identify any potential drug interactions.

Some medicines that clopidogrel can interact with include:

  • Omeprazole and esomeprazole (may reduce the effectiveness of clopidogrel)

  • Warfarin and other anticoagulants

  • Nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs)

  • SSRIs and SNRIs

This list doesn’t represent all the drugs that may interact with clopidogrel. If you’re unsure whether a certain drug can be taken with clopidogrel, speak with your doctor or pharmacist. The FDA also has a helpful medication guide for clopidogrel here.

If you accidentally miss your dose of Clopidogrel, take the missed dose as soon as you remember. If it’s almost time for your next dose, skip the missed dose and take your next dose at the usual time. Don't take 2 doses at the same time or extra doses.

Clopidogrel can be taken with or without food.

During pregnancy: Clopidogrel should be used during pregnancy only if the potential benefits justify the potential risks.

While breastfeeding: It is not known whether clopidogrel passes into breast milk. Consult your healthcare provider for guidance.

It’s important to manage cardiovascular conditions during pregnancy and breastfeeding, as untreated conditions can have negative effects. Always let your provider know if you’re pregnant or breastfeeding, so you can discuss the risks and benefits of starting or continuing treatment.

It is generally advisable to limit alcohol consumption while taking Clopidogrel.
