Frequently Asked Questions

We know how important it is to know what you're putting inside your body. Please visit this link for a PDF of full drug facts for Cabinet Allergy Relief.

It is important to check in with your doctor or healthcare provider before taking Cabinet Allergy Relief if you have a breathing problem (such as emphysema or chronic bronchitis), glaucoma, trouble urinating as a result of an enlarged prostate gland or other medical conditions. If you are currently taking sedatives, tranquilizers, or any other medications that may make you sleepy, ask a doctor or local pharmacist prior to taking any tablets.

Cabinet Allergy Relief is a medicine that can help relieve symptoms of allergy, allergic reaction, hay fever, and the common cold. These symptoms include: itchy or watery eyes, itchy or runny nose, stuffy nose (rhinitis), sinus pressure, coughing, and sneezing. It is also commonly used as a nighttime sleep aid, available as Cabinet Sleep Aid.

In addition to its desired effects, diphenhydramine may cause some less desirable side effects. Everyone is different, so some people may experience no side effects at all, others may experience mild side effects, and a small number of people may experience rare or more serious adverse effects.

Some side effects of diphenhydramine include: dry mouth/nose/throat, drowsiness, dizziness, nausea and vomiting, loss of appetite, constipation, headache, nervousness, and muscle weakness. Call your doctor immediately if you experience any vision problems, difficulty urinating, or painful urination. Some patients may experience side effects that are not on this list. Check in with your healthcare provider if you have questions or experience concerning side effects. Always check with your doctor or pharmacist prior to taking Cabinet Allergy Relief if you have ever had an allergic reaction to any of the ingredients this product contains.

Adults and children over the age of 12 can take one (1) to two (2) tablets every four to six hours as needed for allergy symptoms. Children ages six to 12 can take one (1) tablet every four to six hours as needed for allergy symptoms. Do not take more than six (6) doses of Cabinet Allergy Relief in 24 hours. This means no more than 12 tablets (or 300 mg) a day for adults and young children over the age of 12, and no more than six (6) tablets (or 150 mg) a day for children ages six to 12. This product is not to be used by children under the age of six.

Cabinet Allergy Relief, a FDA-approved generic alternative to Benadryl® or Banophen®, is a popular over-the-counter (OTC) medicine used to combat allergies. The active ingredient, diphenhydramine hydrochloride, belongs to a group of medications called antihistamines. Antihistamines work by blocking the action of histamine, which is the substance in the body that causes those unpleasant allergic symptoms and reactions.

For those with celiac disease or a gluten intolerance, we know how hard it can be to find safe medications and products you can trust. Cabinet is the first healthcare company to conduct batch-level quality testing through a 3rd party lab for carcinogens, gluten, and purity. This ensures that every batch of medicine that goes to market is high quality and free of harmful ingredients.

Cabinet Allergy Relief is certified gluten-free and 100% free from known carcinogens. You can view our 3rd party certificate of analysis at this link.

For the curious consumer: Batch-level testing is not common practice among manufacturers. A great example of the lack of testing in this space is the massive Zanac (randitidine) recall in 2019 and 2020. Manufacturers recalled ranitidine (both brand and generic) after a cancer-causing chemical called N-Nitrosodimethylamine (NDMA) was discovered in every medicine lot.
